NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oregon softball team (34-29) celebrated a 1-0 victory over Tulsa earlier Saturday afternoon in its second game of the NCAA Regional tournament at the OU Softball Complex.

With its win, UO will play Arkansas immediately after since the Razorbacks lost to No. 7 Oklahoma, 6-5, earlier Saturday in 11 innings.

Oregon scored its run in the sixth inning when sophomore Neena Bryant reached on an error by the third baseman on a hard liner at the fielder’s lower legs that she dropped. She then stole second base and scored on a double by Monique Fuiava down the left field line.

Oregon junior starter Alicia Cook (17-13) pitched the complete game and struck out four, walked one, and allowed two hits in her sixth shutout of the year.

For Tulsa (34-25), starting pitcher Jackie Lawrence allowed three hits, struck out eight, walked five and allowed no earned runs. The Golden Hurricanes’ top hitter was Vanessa Vice (2-for-3) who collected both of Tulsa’s hits.

Stranding four runners in the game, Tulsa’s best opportunity to score came in fifth when the leadoff hitter got on via a hit to right field, then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Two more runners got with two outs via a walk and hit by pitch, but Cook forced a grounder to third to end the inning.
