The Duck softball team is excited to welcome Sam Marder to the Duck fold as a first-year volunteer coach for the 2011-12 season.

In her rookie season, she paced the team in hitting (.403), homers (7), RBI (17), and ranked second in hits (31) and walks (12), and helped the squad finish second in the league during the regular season (22-17).

As a prep, the Calabasas, Calif., native was a 2006 First-Team All-California choice, and three-time, first-team All-Miramonte League and L.A. Daily News all-area selection. Off the field, she was a four-year honor roll member and Presidential Scholar Award winner as a senior.

She began her coaching career in 2010-11 as an undergraduate assistant coach at her alma mater while she completed her undergraduate degree in history. Off the field, she was a four-time scholar-athlete honoree for the Buckeyes and a finalist for the Big Ten Commissioner's Medal for all sports in 2009-10.

Her younger brother, Jack Marder, is a former Duck baseball player and was selected in the 2011 pro draft by the Seattle Mariners in the 16th round as the 483rd pick overall. In his two years for Oregon, he hit .232, drove in 52 runs, and hit seven home runs and 17 doubles.
