After being selected to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team the previous season, named Second-Team All-Conference USA as a sophomore in a vote of the league's coaches and media ... received the United States Basketball Writers Association's Most Courageous Award during the week of the NCAA Final Four in Houston ... Averaged 10.3 points and 9.1 rebounds as a freshman ... ranked second in Conference USA in rebounding ... set a Rice freshman record with 272 total rebounds which ranks as the ninth most in school history ... led Rice in rebounding 22 times during the year and had 12, double-figure rebounding games along with nine double-doubles ... 48 of his 98 offensive rebounds led to second-chance points ... scored 95 second-chance points ... connected on 53 percent of his field goal attempts (105-of-198) ... set new Rice freshman records by making 100-of-164 free throw attempts ... drew 11 charges during the year to lead Rice ... also had a team-leading 27 dunks and 31 deflections ... had 47 steals during the year including 17 total in the Owls' last six games ... blocked 26 shots which ties for 10th most in a season at Rice … started his first career game at Lamar and finished with 13 points, a season-high to that point in the season ... equaled a career rebounding high in the first half of the Houston game (11) and went on to have 14 boards.
