EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon softball team closes out its fall ball exhibition schedule at 1 p.m. on Sunday with a doubleheader against rival Oregon State at Howe Field.
Admission for fans to both games is free.
The Ducks played three other fall ball doubleheaders thus far, but all were on the road. This is the first and final Howe Field appearance for head coach Mike White's squad before the start of the 2014 regular season.
Oregon returns the bulk of its 50-win season from a year ago, including All-American outfielder Janie Takeda and catcher/DP Alexa Peterson. Takeda hit a team-high .442 last year as a sophomore. She tied for the team lead with 54 runs scored while driving in 44 more. Peterson hit 12 home runs, second on the team to Kailee Cuico (14), who is also back for the 2014 season.
The Ducks also return pitcher Cheridan Hawkins, who ranked No. 5 in the NCAA with 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings during her standout freshman campaign. The lefty struck out a whopping 212 batters while walking just 34.
