WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- University of Oregon freshman catcher Alexa Peterson and senior pitcher Brittany Rumfelt were named the Pac-10 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for May 9-15 by Commissioner Larry Scott Tuesday.

In Oregon’s history-making weekend against returning national champion and then-No. 12 UCLA, Peterson was the only Duck to hit safely in all three games.

For the series, the Salem, Ore., native paced the team in batting (.714), hits (5) and on-base percentage (.750), and stood second in slugging (.714) and third in total bases (5).

Helping the team to a third-place Pac-10 finish - its best-ever in the eight-team league - she owns the team’s longest current hitting streak (6), and leads the squad in conference action in batting (.356), hits (21) and multi-hit games (6).

Overall on the season, the team’s Defensive MVP ranks third on the squad in batting (.327), on-base percentage (.423) and game-winning RBI (4), fourth in hits (36-tied) and fifth in slugging (.509)

Rumfelt made a pair of appearances and helped UO cement its second-ever season series advantage vs. the 11-time national champions.

The Lakeport, Calif., native made her first career start vs. the Bruins on the team’s pressure-filled Senior Day. She struck out seven in her six innings, and helped Oregon become the second team this year to blank the Bruins in the 5-0 decision.

For the weekend, she paced the team in ERA (1.83), wins (1-tied), strikeout-walk ratio (1.83:1) and opposing batting average (.148).

These honors mark the first of both Peterson’s and Rumfelt’s careers. Oregon now has 36 weekly softball honors all-time.

Earlier this season, sophomore Jessica Moore was accorded similar honors after her performance in the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, Calif., at the end of February.

Moore went 3-0 in the tourney; led UO in wins (3), strikeouts (19), ERA (0.00), innings (16.0) and opponent batting average (.115); and allowed three hits or less in all three of her starts.

Moore was also an honoree in 2010, as was senior first baseman Monique Fuiava, and sophomore outfielders Allie Burger and Samantha Pappas.

This week, the Ducks will make their 13th all-time NCAA Regional appearance and seventh the last nine years. Tabbed as the No. 13 seed overall in the 64-team NCAA Tournament field, the Ducks will play in the State College Regional, and first face Albany on Friday, May 20 at 2:30 p.m. ET / 11:30 a.m. PT.
