EUGENE - The University of Oregon softball team successfully completed its fall slate with a perfect 6-0 mark, thanks to its 11-1 and 7-1 wins over Corban University at Howe Field.
In Tuesday's 11-1 opener, UO struck for one run in the first inning, seven in the second, five in the fifth and two in the sixth for its largest scoring output of the fall's six contests.
All-America senior outfielder Samantha Pappas went 3-for-3, and knocked in 3 RBI with her second-inning homer.
Freshman utility player Stevie Jo Knapp also was perfect at the plate (2-for-2), and freshman catcher Janelle Lindvall added a solo homer in the fifth inning for her first round-tripper at Howe Field.
In the circle, freshman starter Chreidan Hawkins got the win, and in her five innings, struck out six, walked one and allowed three hits. Sophomore Karissa Hovinga pitched the last two innings, struck out two, walked none, allowed three hits and one earned run in the seventh.
In the 7-1 doubleheader finale, Pappas led the way with another multi-hit game (2-for-3), and rapped a pair of doubles in the second and fourth innings.
Sophomore outfielders Janie Takeda and Sara Goodrum each went 2-for-3, and the former player lined a fourth-inning double that knocked in 2 RBI.
Sophomore third baseman Jamie Rae Sullivan later belted a homer in the team's five-run fourth inning, while UO also scored once in the first and sixth innings.
All-America senior pitcher and starter Jessica Moore was credited with the win after she struck out 10, walked one and allowed only one hit. Hovinga pitched the final two innings, struck out two, walked none, allowed three hits and one earned run in the sixth.
Earlier the past month, UO won doubleheaders vs. a pair of NCAA returnees to open its fall exhibition slate.
Oregon defeated Portland State at home last Sunday by 5-4 and 7-5 scores, and took both games at Oregon State two weekends before by 4-1 and 9-4 counts.
Looking ahead, UO opens its spring slate against Western Michigan on on Feb. 7 in the four-day Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. UO then plays tourneys in Las Vegas (Louisville Slugger Classic, Feb. 15-17), Palm Springs (Cathedral City Classic, Feb. 22-24), Orlando (Citrus Classic, March 1-3) and Fresno (Bayer Cropscience Classic, March 8-9).
The Ducks tentatively open their home schedule vs. New Mexico with a doubleheader on March 13, and then welcomes Stanford to Eugene for the first weekend of Pac-12 play on March 23-25.
