Ducks Rack Up All-Pac-10 Honors
Release Date: 05/18/2011
Sophomore pitcher Jessica Moore picked up her first All-Pac-10 First-Team honor, while senior Monique Fuiava was a Second-Team choice. Four others added honorable mention status - freshman Courtney Ceo, sophomore Samantha Pappas and seniors Brittany Rumfelt and Kaitlin Vitek.
Ceo and Alexa Peterson were also tabbed to the All-Pac-10 Freshman Team, while Kailee Cuico was an honorable mention.
In this week’s Pac-10 standings, Moore ranked top-five in saves (second, 3-tied), ERA (third, 1.66), strikeouts looking (fourth, 58), strikeouts (fifth, 193) and wins (fifth-21-tied).
Five other Ducks were also easy to spot in a host of league categories, and their rankings follow: Ceo (hits, seventh-tied, 62; stolen bases, seventh, 14), Fuiava (doubles, seventh, 12; slugging, eighth, .677), Pappas (stolen bases, eighth, 13), Peterson (hit by pitch, fifth-tied, 9); Rumfelt (games in relief, first-tied, 20; games finished, third-tied, 14; opposing batting, third, .196; ERA, 10th, 2.35) and Vitek (sacrifice flies, second, 4-tied).
Since UO’s first honor in 1988, Moore became the third Duck pitcher to land on the All-Pac-10 First Team and joined former honorees Ani Nyhus (2004) and Katie Wiese (1989). Last year, the Sutter, Calif., native was an All-Pac-10 Second-Team honoree and All-Freshman Team pick.
The remaining seven players all received their first all-league honors.
All-time Oregon, UO has racked up 19 first-team honors and 35 second-team selections.
Wednesday’s other awards went to Arizona State’s Dallas Escobedo (Freshman of the Year) and Clint Myers (Coach of the Year), California’s Valerie Henderson (Pitcher of the Year), Stanford’s Ashley Hansen (Player of the Year / Batting Champion) and Washington’s Jenn Salling (Defensive Player of the Year).
This week, Oregon kicks off its 13th postseason appearance in the NCAA Regional in State College, Pa. Tabbed as the No. 13 seed overall in the 64-team NCAA Tournament field, the Ducks first face Albany on Friday, May 20 at 2:30 p.m. ET / 11:30 a.m. PT in the three-day, double-elimination event that also includes Fordham and Penn State.
Every game will be broadcast for free online at Penn State’s www.GoPSUsports.com website at the http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/w-softbl/2011NCAA.html URL address.
