UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 11 University of Oregon softball team (40-14) kicked off its 13th NCAA Regional trip Friday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Albany (28-22) at Penn State's Beard Field.

After Albany scored its lone run in the top of the second inning, the tourney's No. 13-seeded Ducks scored two runs in the second inning, and added another run in the sixth to raise its all-time regional record to 29-21.

Sophomore Jessica Moore (22-9) posted her third career win in regional action and 16th complete game of the season.

The Sutter, Calif., native ended with nine strikeouts and one walk, and allowed five hits and one earned run.

Friday's stats also moved her up a spot on the Duck all-time career list in strikeouts (fourth, 440) past Alicia Cook (435), and into ties season-wise for wins (fifth, 22) and strikeouts (third, 202) with Rachelle Taylor (1994) and Ani Nyhus (2004).

Senior designated player Kaitlin Vitek sparked the Oregon offense with a 2-for-3 day. The Valencia, Calif., native rapped UO's first hit, a single in the second inning, then added her first career triple in the sixth inning that led to UO's final run.

Five other Ducks hit safely - junior Christie Nieto, sophomores Allie Burger, Kaylan Howard and Samantha Pappas and freshman Alexa Peterson.

In the second inning, Vitek's first hit was followed by a two-out walk to Pappas and RBI singles by Nieto and Burger.

Oregon also put its first two batters on in the fourth on a walk by Peterson and single by Pappas. However, Peterson was thrown out trying to second base, while Pappas was cut down at the plate on an attempted double steal (with Burger on first base).

Vitek laced her triple down the right field line to open the sixth inning, and pinch-runner Lauren Kotz scored the next at-bat when Peterson singled to center field.

In her 15th complete game of the season, Albany starter Brittany MacFawn (15-7) struck out three, walked three, gave up seven hits, and all three of her runs allowed were earned.

At the plate, five Danes hit safely, and Diane MacDowell led the way with a 2-for-3 day.

The American East Conference champion opened the game more in-stride offensively, and put its first two runners on via an error by the shortstop and single to left field. After a strikeout, it loaded the bases on a four-pitch walk, but Moore ended the inning with a pop-up to shortstop and grounder to third base.

In the second, Albany's first batter, Jessica Bergin, led off with a double just over the head of the centerfielder who retreated late on the play. After an infield ground-out advanced her to third base, she scored on a fly ball to straightaway center field, barely beating the throw home.

Moore took matters into her own hands the rest of the way, and posted seven strikeouts in the final five innings. She set the Great Danes down 1-2-3 in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings, and also held Albany scoreless in the fifth when the team logged its other two hits, a pair of infield singles.

Looking ahead, UO returns to action to play Fordham Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time. The Rams won Friday's second game against the host Nittany Lions, 2-0, thanks to a seventh-inning home run.

All of Saturday's action will be broadcast live online at www.GoPSUsports.com, while Sunday's games will be only televised by the Big Ten Network.
