EUGENE – With the addition of prep senior Stevie Jo Knapp, the University of Oregon softball team announced the seventh member of one of its most decorated signee classes ever.

The Chino Hills, Calif., native is a 5-10 infielder for Ayala High School, and also plays for the Strike Force Gold Club.

She was honored as a first-team all-league pick as a sophomore, junior and senior; second-team choice as a freshman; and an all-league academic choice all four seasons. In club action, she slammed three homers in the 2011 Louisville Slugger Independence Day tournament and helped her squad place third overall.

In past summer seasons, she played for the American Pastime Gold (2010), OC Batbusters (2007-09) and So Cal Bombers (2005) club teams.

“Stevie Jo has a great bat with lots of power,” Oregon head coach Mike White said. “She has shown great resolve coming back from a serious injury, and has worked hard to position herself to make a difference for us next season. She will also boost us with her positive, team-first attitude, and is a great student, too.”

Knapp joins a newcomer group that already includes two utility players, one pitcher, one catcher, one infielder and one outfielder (and their names follow alphabetically):

- Koral Costa, UT, RH-RT, 5-5, San Pedro, Calif., San Pedro HS (So Cal Firecrackers Club)
- Cheridan Hawkins, P, LH-LT, 5-10, Anderson, Calif., Anderson HS (Sorcerors Gold (Mumma)))
- Janelle Lindvall, C, RH-RT, 5-10, Stevenson Ranch, Calif., West Ranch HS (So Cal Firecrackers)
- Danica Mercado, IF, LH-RT, 5-4, Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS (So Cal Athletics)
- Karine Shaver, IF, LH-RT, RT, 5-4, Waipahu, Hawai’i, Kamehameha HS (Guava Jam Black)
- Andrinae White, OF, RH-RT, 5-5, Fairfield, Calif., St. Patrick-St. Vincent HS (Sorcerors Gold (Mumma))

Looking ahead, Duck coaches will be busy the next few weeks hosting several youth summer camps.

On July 16-17 in Eugene, an all-ages camp will be held at Howe Field with July 16 dedicated to offense and defense, and July 17 toward pitchers and catchers.

A month later, a Southern California Satellite Elite Camp will be held on August 21-23.
