With the 2013 indoor track and field season beginning on Saturday for Oregon's men and three-time defending NCAA champion women, goducks.com will preview each position in the days leading up to the opener in Nampa, Idaho.

2013 Indoor Track and Field Outlook - Combined Events

The combined events illustrate a dichotomy among the Duck teams in 2013. Oregon's women will be hard pressed to replace the loss of Boweman Trophy finalist and seven-time NCAA champion Brianne Theisen. At the same time, the men boast Pac-12 decathlon champion Dakotah Keys as well as fellow conference scorer Alec Fellows.

Indoors, Keys, a junior from Sweet Home, Ore., will focus on the seven-event heptathlon as he looks to qualify for the NCAA Championships. He peaked at 5,660 points in a runner-up finish at the MPSF Championships a year ago and just missed a bid to the NCAA meet. Fellows, a sophomore from Woodway, Wash., was fourth in the decathlon at the MPSF meet a year ago with 5,333 points.

They will be joined by Blake Kemp, a freshman from Coos Bay, Ore., who redshirted the 2012 season.

The women will look to redshirt freshman Alyssa Monteverde to take over Theisen's spot. Monteverde, from Fresno, Calif., got off to a promising start in 2012, including an 18-0.25/5.49m long jump at the indoor opener, before an injury sidelined her for the rest of the season.

The 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are coming to Historic Hayward Field June 5-8 (www.ncaa.com/trackandfield).
