Her success on the field parallels her success in the classroom and within the O Heroes program. Maggie serves as the student-athlete liaison for O Heroes, and she plays a critical role in organizing student-athlete’s participation within the community.
Over the past two years, Maggie has played a vital role in planning events and volunteering throughout the Eugene/Springfield community. Most recently, Maggie assisted in planning the Thanksgiving Basket Drive that raised a record 61 food baskets and $700 for families in the Eugene/Springfield area.
As an O Heroes leader, Maggie recruits fellow athletes to partake in O Heroes events. She decorated the Riverbend Hospital for the holidays, participated in Special Olympics bowling, played with kids at the Boys & Girls Club (BGC) of Emerald Valley, and helped paint the BGC for their Halloween Carnival. Maggie is a weekly volunteer at the BGC where she serves as a positive role model to youth of all ages.
Maggie’s passion for helping others is not only an inspiration to her teammates, but is an inspiration the kids she works with as well. Maggie’s mom, a dedicated community volunteer, has inspired Maggie’s philanthropic efforts at Oregon. Maggie says that volunteering is deeply rooted in her life and that she plans to continue working in the community after graduating.
Post-graduation, Maggie plans to work in sports marketing and hopes to work at Nike, where she interned over the summer. Regardless of where she ends up, Maggie wants to continue to give back to the community and represent the O Heroes program as a positive role model for young people.
