EUGENE – Two of Oregon’s most decorated softball players got a head start on the 2013 season and were honored this week on the College Sports Madness Softball Preseason All-America Teams.

The senior pair of outfielder Samantha Pappas and pitcher Jessica Moore were selected to the online publication’s second and third national teams, respectively, after they received similar NFCA honors at the end of the 2012 season.

Pappas enters the ’13 campaign ranked top-10 all-time for Oregon career-wise in batting (fourth, .358), homers (seventh, 30), RBI (eighth, 120), walks (eighth, 72) and stolen bases (10th, 49).

Moore is similarly easy to spot as the school career record holder for wins (73) and strikeouts (718). She also owns UO’s top-three season strikeout totals (256, 2012; 238, '10; 224, '11).

Among other Pac-12 teams, three conference rivals also sported two honorees – Arizona State, Stanford and UCLA – and three other schools had single representatives (California, Oregon State and Washington).

Bruin sophomore Stephany LaRosa was chosen at the National Field Player of the Year, and other preseason national honors went to Oklahoma’s Keilani Ricketts (Pitcher of the Year) and Alabama’s Andrea Hawkins (Freshman of the Year) and Patrick Murphy (Coach of the Year).

A complete listing of all four national teams is available below and at the http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/5740 URL address.

This week, the Duck duo and their teammates look ahead to their second week of winter-term practice, and are less than three weeks away from their season opener in the Kajikawa Classic vs. Western Michigan, Thursday, February 7 in Tempe, Ariz.

In subsequent weeks, UO’s preseason slate will also include tournaments in Las Vegas (Louisville Slugger Classic, February 15-17), Palm Springs, Calif. (Cathedral City Classic, February 22-24), Orlando, Fla. (Citrus Classic, March 1-3) and Fresno, Calif. (Bayer Cropscience Classic, March 8-9),

Oregon’s first home tilt is less than two months away vs. New Mexico on Wednesday, March 13 at Howe Field.

In their fourth season under head coach Mike White, the Ducks comes off their second-ever World Series trip and one of their greatest seasons ever in 2012 (45-18, Pac-12: 13-9 (3rd)).
