FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 8 University of Oregon softball team (20-3) owned a 5-1 lead over Fresno State (14-10) in the bottom of the second inning before rain ended the evening's action.
With six games already scheduled for Saturday and the Ducks flying back Sunday morning, the game may not be rescheduled.
In the first inning, the Ducks struck for five runs, thanks to a three-run homer by senior second baseman Kaylan Howard, and RBI singles by sophomore third baseman Jamie Rae Sullivan and freshman Danica Mercado.
Fresno State scored its run in the second inning after an error infield throw on a grounder that allowed the runner to advance to third base, followed by a single to shortstop.
Senior Jessica Moore pitched 1.1 innings, logged two strikeouts, no walks, and allowed no hits and one unearned run.
At the plate, eight Ducks hit safely, and Howard ended with a pair of hits in her two at-bats.
Looking ahead, the Ducks return for their final games of the tourney Saturday morning against Iowa State at 9 a.m. and St. Mary's at 1:30 p.m.
