SEATTLE – En route to a 12-1 victory, the No. 10-ranked University of Oregon softball team (27-4, 4-0) rolled to its largest win ever over No. 15 Washington (24-9, 2-2) to open their three-game series Thursday at Husky Softball Stadium.

The Ducks scored in double digits vs. the returning NCAA Super Regional qualifier for the fourth time in their 67 meetings since 1993, and also bettered their previous-best 10-run win margin from '93 (11-1).

At the plate, UO tied its season high in hits (17) that it initially logged vs. No. 14 Michigan four weeks ago, and was just of its season high in runs (13).

In the second inning, freshman catcher Janelle Lindvall accounted for her third straight game-winning RBI of the season, thanks to her solo homer to left field (and fifth overall in 2013).

UO added four more runs in the fifth inning with two outs, the first coming on an RBI single by senior second baseman Kaylan Howard and two-run homer to right field by junior first baseman Kailee Cuico. The latter player’s ninth-round tripper of the season put her one ahead of Howard for the team lead this season, and the pair entered the game ranked 53rd nationally and seventh in the Pac-12.

Junior DP Alexa Peterson added an RBI double to cap scoring in the inning after senior right fielder Samantha Pappas doubled the at-bat before. Both two-baggers were their team-leading sixth of the season, and Pappas’ extra-base hit move her into a tie for seventh all-time for UO career-wise (35) with former teammate Kelsey Chambers.

In the seventh inning, UO added seven more runs on a sacrifice fly by Pappas, RBI single by freshman pinch-hitter Danica Mercado, two-run single by freshman pinch-hitter Stevie Jo Knapp, and three-run homer by junior shortstop Courtney Ceo. The latter shot to left field was Ceo's fourth round-tripper of the campaign

Overall for the game, 11 of the 12 Ducks that batted hit safely, and four logged multiple hits – Takeda (3-for-5), Peterson (3-for-4, RBI), Howard (2-for-4, RBI, SB) and Cuico (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI)

In the circle for UO, senior Jessica Moore (13-3) logged her third victory this year vs. a top 15-ranked foe. The returning third-team All-American pitched the first six innings, struck out five, walked three, allowed only two hits, and her one run allowed was earned.

Sophomore Karissa Hovinga finished her eighth game this season, struck out one, walked none, and allowed one hit and no runs in her final inning of work.

For the Huskies, junior starter Kaitlin Inglesby (10-3) struck out three, walked one, allowed nine hits, and all five of her runs allowed were earned. Kasey Stanchek pitched the final two innings, struck out one, walked none, gave up eight hits, and all seven of her runs allowed were earned.

On Duck all-time lists, Moore became the first Duck pitcher to log 800 career strikeouts (and now has 802 currently).

Offensively, Pappas and Howard also climbed career categories for runs (fifth-tied, 130) and RBI (ninth-tied, 119), respectively.

UW scored its lone run in the fourth inning on a single by Hooch Fagaly – this week’s Pac-12 leader in on-base percentage (.549) - after a pair of walks to open the inning. Fagaly ended the game 2-for-3, and Kimberlee Souza also hit safely once.

Thursday's win moved the Ducks to 4-0 in league action, and a half-game ahead of No. 4 California (26-3, 3-0) into first place in the Pac-12 standings (while the Bears do not play again until next week).

Looking ahead, the Ducks return for single games against the Huskies on Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at noon.

Friday’s game will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 TV Network, with Anne Marie Anderson and Tammy Blackburn calling the action.

On Saturday, fans can watch the finale live online at the link.
