Marcus Mariota Named to Manning Award Watch List

NEW ORLEANS -  University of Oregon sophomore Marcus Mariota is one of 30 of the nation’s top quarterbacks named to the Manning Award Watch List, which is awarded annually to the top collegiate quarterback in the country.

Sponsored by the by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the award was created to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, and is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ accomplishments in bowl performances as part of its consideration.

The Ducks’ returning first-team all-conference quarterback set the Pac-12 Conference record for touchdown passes by a freshman with 32. Mariota finished seventh in the nation in passing efficiency a year ago, completing 230 of 336 attempts for 2,677 yards to earn the league’s Offensive-Freshman-of-the-Year honors. In his first year as signal-caller, he set school records in completion percentage (68.5) and total touchdowns (38). Mariota accumulated 3,429 yards in total offense last season to lead the Ducks to a 12-1 record and a Tostitos Fiesta Bowl victory over Kansas State

The Watch List included three other quarterbacks from the Pac--12 Conference.
