ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Senior setter Lauren Plum broke the career assists record on a day which was dampened by the No. 12 Oregon (3-3) volleyball team’s straight set-loss to No. 7 Michigan (5-0), Saturday, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21.

Plum entered the night with 4,367 career assists, needing 33 to tie to tie Nevena Djordjevic (2006-09) at the previous record of 4,400. Plum reached that mark late in the third set and surpassed the record with an assist to fellow All-American Liz Brenner. The Poway, Calif., native finished the day with 35 assists and a 4,402 career tally.

The Ducks were outhit in each of the three sets and finished with a .191 hitting mark compared to Michigan’s .296.

Plum also recorded her third double-double of the season by adding 12 digs to her stat line, one off the team leader Amanda Benson, who had 13.

Martenne Bettendorf and Ariana Williams led the team on the offensive end with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. It was the third time Bettendorf led the team in kills this season while the match marked back-to-back double digit kills for Williams.

The first set was a heartbreaker for the Ducks who watched Michigan gradually pull away throughout the set until mounting an 8-1 run to take their first lead at 21-20 since their 1-0 lead at the beginning of play. After a Michigan timeout, the Wolverines turned away Oregon’s hopes of gaining momentum on the road with a 5-1 run to end the set at 25-22.

In the second set, the teams battled through 14 ties and nine lead changes as neither team was able to separate by more than two points until the final play of the set that gave Michigan the 25-22 win.

The Wolverines hit their best in the third set at 36.4 percent, carrying them to a 25-21 final.

Oregon will return home for a home match against Seattle, Tuesday at 7 p.m., before taking part in the Fresno State Classic, Friday and Saturday.
