NEW YORK -- The John Mackey Award has named the University of Oregon's Johnny Mundt as its national tight end of the week, following the freshman's breakout performance in the Ducks' 59-14 win over Tennessee on Sept. 14.

Mundt, a true freshman from Modesto, Calif., recorded the first five receptions of his career, including a pair of touchdowns, while amassing 121 yards. That yardage total ranks as the ninth-most in a single game by a tight end at UO and is the highest total since Ed Dickson had 148 yards on 11 catches vs. Cal in 2009.

Also of note was the fact that Mundt, appearing in his third game as a collegian, made his first start. Mundt's 57-yard reception against the Vols was the longest pass play of the season for the Ducks.

The organization that administers the weekly award also presents the annual John Mackey Award at the end of each season to the nation's top tight end. A midseason watch list is scheduled to be announced Oct. 14.
