EUGENE, Ore. - Cheridan Hawkins, Danica Mercado, Jessica Moore and Koral Costa were all named to the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete team, the organization announced.

The NFCA Scholar-Athlete team is made up of every player in the nation who posted a GPA of 3.5 or better during the 2012-13 academic year.

Hawkins, a family and human sciences major, posted a 3.68 GPA last year. The Anderson, Calif., native returns this season as Oregon's No. 1 starting pitcher after being named first team all-Pac-12 and second team all-Pacific Region after her standout freshman campaign. Hawkins ranked No. 5 in the NCAA averaging 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings a season ago. The lefty pitched for both the junior and senior USA National Teams over the summer.

Mercado, who has yet to declare a major, tallied a 3.63 GPA in her freshman season. Mercado scored 17 runs while appearing in 42 games last year.

Moore, who completed her stellar Oregon career last season, recorded a 3.61 GPA in her senior season. The ace pitcher threw for the senior USA National Team at the Pan American games and Mayor's Cup over the summer after being named a first team All-American by the NFCA last year.

Costa, the thrid rising sophomore on this list, recorded a 3.57 GPA while studying journalism and cinema studies as a freshman last season. Costa drove in 20 RBIs and smacked five homers in her rookie campaign.
