EUGENE, Ore. - The 17th-ranked UO women’s golf team signed two prep seniors to the 2014-15 freshmen class, head coach Ria Scott announced Thursday. The Ducks received National Letters of Intent from Megan Conder and Kelsey Ulep.
Conder and Ulep are both prized recruits out of California and will enter the University of Oregon as freshmen next season. Both recruits are four-time MVPs on their respective high school girls' golf teams.
"Both Kelsey, Megan and their families share an incredible excitement for the University of Oregon," said Scott. "These are two players who have incredible potential and could not be more proud to be Ducks. They are already great representatives of our program."
Brentwood, Calif. - Heritage High
Conder is a four-time Bay Valley Athletic All-League first team selection out of Heritage High in Brentwood, Calif. She was named league MVP in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Conder won the BVAL Tournament Championship in each of the past three seasons and was one of six players named to the 2012 Bay Area first team by the Contra Costa Times.
Conder carded a 2-under, 70, to win the individual title at the 2012 North Coast Sectional. She also earned medalist honors at the 2013 Future Collegian World Tour Championship at the San Ramon Golf Club. This year, Conder qualified for the USGA Junior Girls Championship in Fort Wayne, Ind.
"Megan’s best golf is definitely ahead of her," said Scott. "When you see her swing a golf club, you can absolutely see the potential there. She is a player that gets better each time she tees it up in a tournament and will continue to improve with collegiate competition."
Rocklin, Calif. - Whitney High
Ulep is a four-time MVP of her Whitney High girls’ golf team, hailing from Rocklin, Calif. She qualified to the USGA Junior Girls Championship in 2009, 2011 and 2013. She reached the match play portion of the event this year after placing fifth in the field with a 2-under 36 hole score of 141 (68-73). Ulep has secured two top 10 AJGA finishes and two top 15 finishes.
This season, Ulep set the Capital Athletic League conference record for lowest round, carding a remarkable round of 64. She also recently placed third in the 2013 Sacramento County Women’s Championship (143/-1) and 21st in the 2013 Callaway Junior Worlds. In the 2012-13 season, Ulep was named Sacramento All-City Athlete of the Year.
"Kelsey has excelled both on the regional and national level." said Scott. "She has a dynamic golf game, hits the ball a good distance and has the ability to go really low."
