SEATTLE - Freshman Jayson Amos led the UO men's tennis team in the opening day of the Nordstrom Open as the Ducks went 3-0 Friday from the Nordstrom Tennis Center. All four singles players and both doubles pairings advanced in the main draw of the open event.
In round one of the singles main draw, Amos defeated Portland State's Nate Chart to advance. Amos won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to collect his fifth victory of the fall season. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native ranks third on the team in fall singles wins.
Oregon won both its doubles matches in the main draw to reach the third round after opening with a bye.
Maasland - competeting in his first fall event of the season - teammed with Amos in doubles play. The duo defeated Jared Madison and Thais Minet, 8-2.
Sardu and Chin were paired together for the first time this fall and prevailed in their second round meeting with Brian Hou and Jason Lui. Sardu and Chin won by a score of 8-6.
Oregon improves its overall fall record to 45-25 with today's three victories.
Tomorrow's action from Seattle will begin at 8 a.m. (PT) and consist of the second and third round of singles, the third round of doubles and consolation play.
