EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon men’s tennis team finished the day just like it opened it - with a commanding win. The No. 52 Ducks (2-0) swept both opponents in Friday’s season-opening doubleheader at the Student Tennis Center. Oregon shutout Eastern Washington (1-1), 7-0, in the finale after blanking Portland State in the morning.

The Ducks looked sharp in their dual debut and are yet to lose a set in singles or a match in doubles through two matches. Oregon has opened the season with two straight 7-0 wins in each of the past three seasons.

“We had two positive results today, and it definitely gave us guidance for what we need to work on by Monday,” said head coach Nils Schyllander. “All in all, we did exactly what we were expected to do.”

Junior Daniel Sardu and freshman Jayson Amos improved to 2-0, blanking their No. 3 doubles opponent in a 6-0 victory. Oregon clinched the doubles point with a victory in the No. 1 match courtesy of senior Robin Cambier and sophomore Kevin Farin. The duo improved to 9-1 on the season, defeating the Eagles’ Roberto Dula and Wacil Bendjelti, 6-1. Oregon is 4-0 in dual doubles matches this year.

The Ducks made quick work in singles, winning each match in two sets. Amos got on the board first, winning his No. 6 match, 6-0, 6-0. Amos swept all four of his singles sets on the day, improving to 6-2 on the season.

Junior Joey Swaysland and Sardu won their matches next for the Ducks. Swaysland defeated Matt Boyle, 6-1, 6-4, in No. 5 singles. Sardu defeated Wacil Bendjelti, 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 4 match.

Senior Robin Cambier made the team score 4-0, clinching the win with a No. 2 singles victory. The Brussels, Belgium, native defeated Eduardo Bringold, 6-3, 6-2, improving his team-best singles record to 11-2. Sophomore Daan Maasland won his No. 3 singles match against Luke Thompson, 6-2, 6-2.

In his dual debut at Oregon, Farin competed in No. 1 singles in both matches today. After a fairly even 6-4 first set against Dula, Farin cruised in the second set with a 6-1 advantage to secure a 7-0 Oregon sweep. Farin is 9-3 in singles this season.

“I moved well today and it was difficult to make a winner against me,” said Farin, a native of Belgium. “It was a good start for us. We we’re pretty solid, but we still have a lot to work on.”

Oregon returns to action Monday, hosting UC Santa Barbara. The match will get underway at 10 a.m. (PT) at the Student Tennis Center.
