EUGENE, Ore. - Despite being the reigning conference champions, the Oregon softball team was picked third in the 2014 preseason Pac-12 coaches poll.
The Ducks picked up 48 points in the poll while Arizona State and Washington were tied for first with 60 points.
UCLA came in at fourth with 42 points, followed by Stanford, Arizona and California. Oregon State and Utah tied for eighth with 15 points.
Oregon went 50-11 a year ago, the second most wins in program history. The Ducks advanced to their fourth straight Super Regional after winning its first Pac-12 title with a 19-5 mark in conference play.
Oregon head coach Mike White, who was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year last season, returns six field starters, two starting pitchers and 14 total letterwinners off last year's roster. Included in that are a pair of returning All-Americans in senior catcher/designated player Alexa Peterson and junior outfielder Janie Takeda.
The Ducks start the 2014 season on Feb. 7 against Cal Poly at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Oregon will also meet Fresno State, Appalachian State, North Carolina State and Boise State at the tournament.
