Janie Takeda got the offense rolling with a triple down the right field line to open the game and scored on a double from Courtney Ceo. Janelle Lindvall gave Oregon the 4-0 lead after she sent Marla Gooding’s pitch over the right field wall for a two-run homer.
The Ducks put up another three runs in the second inning after Lindvall plated Takeda on an infield single with the bases loaded and Kailee Cuico slapped in another two runs on a single up the middle.
Hovinga pitched another 1-2-3 inning in the top of the third before Nikki Udria’s three-run jack made it 11-0 in favor of Oregon. The homer by the freshman was the first of her collegiate career.
In her second appearance in the circle as a Duck, Jasmine Smithson-Willett tossed two innings and allowed two runs, one unearned, and struck out two in of relief Hovinga.
The Ducks return to the diamond to take on UNLV at 3:45 p.m. to wrap up their first day at the Easton Desert Classic.
