EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon sophomore Cheridan Hawkins was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after her standout performance at the Easton Desert Classic last weekend, the league announced Tuesday.
Hawkins broke her own school record with 18 strikeouts in the Ducks', 3-1, 10-inning win over UNLV on Friday night then came back on Saturday and tossed the third no-hitter of her career in a 9-0 win against Ohio State. The no-hitter was the 22nd in Oregon softball history.
In the six-inning run rule game against the Buckeyes, Hawkins did not allow a hit or a walk while striking out four batters. If not for an error in the fifth, it would have been a perfect game for the left-hander.
She also picked up a save while pitching 2.2 perfect innings with five strikeouts to finish off Chattanooga on Saturday morning.
Overall on the weekend, Hawkins struck out 27 batters while walking just three and allowed three hits in 18.2 innings pitched. She gave up just one unearned run and limited opponents to a .051 batting average.
Through 10 games this season, the Ducks are 9-1 and have won nine-straight games since falling in their season-opener to Cal Poly.
Oregon is ranked No. 6 in this week's NFCA poll and No. 8 in the USA Softball poll.
