LAX Drops 15-14 Affair to Robert Morris in Overtime

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – After taking the lead minutes into the overtime period behind a Shannon Propst goal, the Oregon women’s lacrosse team were weren’t able to hold off Robert Morris and were edged, 15-14, Sunday afternoon at the Cost Center on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.

Propst also led the Ducks with four goals and three assists while fellow senior Nikki Puszcz chipped in with three goals. Goalie Caroline Federighi finished the game with 11 saves, playing in all 66 minutes of action.

Oregon (2-2) took an early 6-2 lead on the heels of goal from Bella Pyne at the 17:38 mark. It was the first collegiate goal for the freshman who played in only her second collegiate match.

A back-and-forth scoring affair ensued after Pyne’s goal and ended with Casey Brogan’s goal at the 21:56 mark that made it 8-6 Oregon. Robert Morris then reeled off five goals to take the 11-9 lead behind Jessica Karwacki and Corey Karwacki who scored the last three goals.

The Ducks answered with 3-0 run of their own that was capped off by Propst to regain a 12-11 lead. The Colonials’Kristin Yoviene tied things up again at 12 all launching one past Federighi with 4:34 remaining.

Carly O’Connell responded right back for the Ducks on the next possession, giving Oregon the 13-12 lead with 4:07 to play. RMU’s Emily Jamison scored the equalizer at 2:55 to put the game into overtime with neither team able to score after the goal.

Robert Morris held a 30-17 advantage in groundballs as well as 20-13 edge in draw controls over Oregon.
