HONOLULU – The No. 2 ranked Oregon softball team held on late and defeated BYU, 3-2, in the Ducks’ first game of the Pepsi Rainbow Wahine Classic.

Starting pitcher Cheridan Hawkins (11-2) allowed two runs on six hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

BYU again had the bases loaded in the seventh, this time with one out. Hawkins got a strikeout for the second out but a walk drove in a run for the Cougars. With the tying run at third, Hawkins forced a pop out to short to end the game.
The Ducks scored twice in the second inning and tacked on another in the fourth.
In the second, after Alyssa Gillespie reached, Karine Shaver put the Ducks on the board with an RBI single through the right side. The Ducks then loaded the bases and a Courtney Ceo ground out brought home another run.
