LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Oregon women’s tennis team can finally head home after a brutal nine-day six-match road trip that ended with a, 4-0, loss to No. 2-ranked UCLA on Saturday, March 29, in a Pac-12 Networks televised match.

The Ducks had their work cut out for them with the Bruins boasting a top-55 ranked singles player in the first five singles positions, including a top-ranked doubles pair and a No. 5 ranked doubles pair.

Oregon (7-10, 1-5 Pac-12) managed to get just four games in doubles play before UCLA (17-1, 5-0 Pac-12) clinched the doubles point. Courtney Dolehide and Chanelle Van Nguyen of the Bruins gave up just two games at No. 3 doubles to Allie Hueffner and Kadie Hueffner, winning 8-2.

Nicole Long and Jasmine Minor played against the top-ranked doubles pair in the nation in Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady at doubles No.1 and were blanked for the first time this season.

The Bruins earned their first singles point immediately at the start of singles play after Sofia Hager defaulted at the No. 6 singles slot.

UCLA earned its third point in the team score after Lina Åkesson fell to No. 55 Catherine Harrison 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Like Åkesson, A. Hueffner only managed to steal one point in the first set to Brady and fell 6-1, 6-0. UCLA’s match clinching win at No. 3 singles also snapped A. Hueffner’s six-match winning streak.

Playing the No. 4-ranked singles player in the nation, Long was able to win four games in the first set before the match was suspended with Anderson leading 6-4, 3-0 at No. 1 singles. Minor was trailing Nguyen, who is the No. 11-ranked singles player in the nation, at the No. 2 singles position, 6-3, 3-2 when the Bruins clinched the match.

K. Hueffner managed to steal one point in the first set, (6-1, 2-0) to No. 40 Kyle McPhillips at No. 5 singles before the match was decided.

Oregon now heads home to the friendly confines of the Student Tennis Center as it prepares for a noon contest with Washington on Sunday, April 6.
