EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon volleyball team’s 2014 incoming freshman class will come to Matthew Knight Arena with high expectations. The five-member class was ranked No. 8 by Prepvolleyball.com, the highest in Oregon history.
In the full article outlining the rankings, which can be viewed here with a subscription, John Tawa comments on the Ducks’ class by saying:
“This class has all the goods to help Oregon get back to the National Championship game, where they were just two seasons ago.”
Three of the new Ducks were in the top 60 of PrepVolleyball.com’s Senior Aces list, with Clackamas High School’s Taylor Agost leading the way at No. 17. The 6’2’’ outside hitter was named the 6A Three Rivers League Player of the Year in 2013.
Frankie Shebby (6’0’’) will join Agost as an outside hitter and is ranked No. 44 on the Senior Aces list. The hard hitter from Mater Dei High School was an All-Orange County First Team in both 2012 and 2013.
Setter Maggie Scott will be competing with Shellsy Ashen to replace outgoing senior Lauren Plum. Scott was No. 60 on the Senior Aces list, hailing from Wildwood, Mo., and was a part of the Lafayette High School team that went 40-0 in 2012 without losing a set. Scott was named a PrepVolleyball.com all-american in 2013.
The Ducks will also see Alex Hojnar (5-9, DS) and Marine Hall-Poirier (5-11, OH) on the floor at MKA next season.
The rankings are determined by Tawa in association with a panel of college coaches across the country, representing every major conference.
