AURORA, Ore. – Senior Cali Hipp shot an 81 and tied for 15th place at the Portland Classic Amateur Open Monday morning at Langdon Farms Golf Club. Hipp fell short of qualifying for a spot in the LPGA’s Portland Classic that is scheduled to take place next week at Columbia Edgewater Country Club on August 28-31.
The Caldwell, Idaho native fired a 38 on the back nine and recovered nicely from a 43 on the front side. Hipp improved throughout her round and capped off her day with a birdie on No. 18. She managed to stay even-par on the par-5s – which included the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 handicapped holes – and just 2-over on the par-3s.
Hipp ranked fifth on the team this past year with a 76.6 round average. Her season-low round came at the Stanford Intercollegiate when she carded a 69.
Gigi Stoll, a University of Arizona commit, won the tournament with a 1-under 71 and earned the automatic qualifier to this weekend's Portland Classic. Stoll recorded five birdies over the course of her round and was the lone competitor to shoot under-par. Stoll played in the U.S. Women’s Open as a 15-year-old in 2012.
