NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oregon junior golfer Daniel Miernicki
has been selected to the eight-man Team USA squad for the 2011 Palmer Cup it was announced Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
An annual Ryder-Cup style competition between teams from the United States and Europe, this year's Palmer Cup will be held at The Stanwich Club outside of Greenwich, Conn., June 9-11.
Miernicki, who helped key a victory for Team USA in the 2010 Palmer Cup played at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland, has two tournament victories for the Ducks this season and tied the school record with a career-low round of 62 during the Amer Ari Invitational in Hawaii in February. All told, the Santee, Calif., product is a four-time medalist in NCAA competitions and ranks first in career scoring average at Oregon at 71.56.
Miernicki is one of four Pac-10 golfers selected to Team USA. A fifth, UCLA's Pontus Widegren, will play for Team Europe.
The United States holds a 7-6-1 record all-time in the Palmer Cup.
The Ducks, who placed third at last season's NCAA Championships, open the 2011 postseason April 29-May 1 at the Pac-10 Championships at the Stanford University Golf Club.
