McIver and Raza Boost Ducks in Pac-12 Preview Finale

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. - With a two-over final round, the No. 25 University of Oregon men's golf team placed seventh in the Pac-12 Preview held at Pumpkin Ridge Tuesday.

Capping their third event of the fall, the Ducks (287-289-290-866) ended with a two-over combined score for the three rounds, and were one of six teams on hand from the 'Conference of Champions' ranked top 25 by Golf World.

Overall in the team standings, No. 1 California (285-273-277-835 (-29)) won by seven strokes over No. 5 Washington (second, 277-281-284-842 (-22)).

No. 14 USC (283-278-282-843) followed in third place, ahead of No. 4 UCLA (fourth, 291-285-279-855), Arizona State (fifth-tie, 296-27-288-862) and Oregon State (fifth-tie, 293-282-287-862).

Other teams in the 12-team field included No. 23 Stanford (eighth, 295-285-287-867), Washington State (ninth, 297-283-289-869), Arizona (10th, 297-286-290-873), Utah (11th, 295-288-301-884) and Colorado (12th, 293-301-296-890).

On the individual leaderboard, freshman Sulman Raza ended in a six-way tie for eighth overall (67-71-73-211), and paced UO in a tournament for the second straight event.

The Eugene native carded a one-over 73 Tuesday on the par-72, 7,017-yard course - his sixth straight round of two-over or better (including three under-par rounds and one at par).

His final-round scorecard included three birdies (on holes #1, 6, 7); 12 par scores (#2, 4-5, 9-11, 13-18), two bogeys (#3, 8) and one double-bogey (#12).

Raza also enjoyed his second straight top-10 placing after he tied for 10th in the St. Mary's Invitational last week (72-74-71-217 (+1)).

Among other Duck results Tuesday, sophomore Rak Cho stood second on the squad (33rd, 68-73-79-220) in the final results for the second time this campaign. Last month, he also topped the team in its season opener - the Kikkor Husky Invitational (sixth overall).

UO's other three entries this week finished within three strokes - freshman Brandon McIver (36th-tie, 76-75-71-222), and redshirt seniors Robbie Ziegler (39th-tie, 76-74-73-223) and Tyler Parker (45th-tie, 81-71-73-225).

In his ninth career round Tuesday, McIver paced UO for the second time, thanks to his first under-par round (a one-under 71).

Glancing at the scorecard for the Billings, Mont., he logged an eagle on the par-5 14th hole, a pair of birdies on the par-5 fourth and seventh holes, 13 par scores (holes #1-3, 5-6, 10-13, 15-18), one bogey (#9) and one double bogey (#8).

Overall for the tourney, Raza and Ziegler each logged an eagle, and the Oregon five-some's birdie/par counts for the three rounds follow: Raza (16/37),  Cho (12/30), Ziegler (11/24), Parker (13/21) and McIver (10/32).

In the overall standings, Washington's Trevor Simsby (69-70-66-205 (-11)) won by one stroke over Arizona's State's John Rahm (77-64-65-206 (-10)).

Looking ahead, Oregon wraps up its fall slate in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif., next Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 15-16.

The Ducks then take a break from competition before resuming action in the spring in the Amer Ari Invitational, Wed.-Fri., Feb. 6-8 in Waikoloa, Hawai’i.
