FAIRFAX, Calif. – The No. 25 University of Oregon men’s golf team opened action Monday in 12th place after the first two rounds of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational.

In the field featuring eight top-50 teams, Oregon (286-285-571) stood tied for 12th place with a one-over, two-round score of 571 with Arizona State (281-290).

Overall in the 16-team standings, No. 1 California owned a nine-stroke edge on the field with its 35-under team total (265-268-533). San Francisco trailed in second place (second, 270-272-542), and BYU (275-284) and No. 2 San Diego State (284-275) were tied for third place with nine-under scores of 559.

On the par-71 Meadow Club course, Duck redshirt senior Robbie Ziegler (11th-tie, 68-69-137) carded his first two rounds of par or better this season. The Canby, Ore., native led UO in both rounds to give him four honors this year and 24 career-wise (and 33 rounds of par or better in his career).

In his first round, Ziegler staked an eagle on the first hole, four birdies (on holes #3, 7, 8, 15), 10 par scores (#4-5, 9-14, 17-18) and three bogeys (#2, 6, 16). In the second round, he added another eagle on the third hole, three more birdies (#1, 13, 15), 11 pars (#2, 4-6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16-18) and three bogeys (#1, 13, 15).

Freshman Sulman Raza (24th-tie, 71-69-140) tied Ziegler for low team honors in the second round – his fifth honor in the last eight rounds – and enjoyed his sixth round of par or better in that span.

Sophomore Rak Cho (72-75) and junior Ben Itterman (75-72) followed in a tie for 58th place with five-over scores of 147. Redshirt senior Tyler Parker rounded out the Duck unit in 79th place (78-79-157).

The Eugene native Raza ended with eight pars and 22 par scores in his two rounds Monday, and UO’s other birdie/par counts follow: Cho (6/21), Itterman (3/26) and Parker (2/20).

Overall on the individual leaderboard, California’s Brandon Hagy owned a five-stroke lead with his 16-under score (64-62-126). San Francisco’s Taylor Travis followed in second place (66-65-131 (-11)), two strokes ahead of San Diego State’s Xander Schauffele (third, 68-65-133 (-9)).

Looking ahead, action resumes with Tuesday’s third and final round set for a 7:45 a.m. start.
