TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Four out of Oregon's five golfers shot even-par or better on day one of the NCAA Regionals in Tallahassee, Fla. As a result, the Ducks sit in a tie for fourth place heading into Friday's second round.
Oregon (-8) shot 280 as a team and is tied with Georgia Tech and South Florida in the overall team standings. North Florida's 272 (-16) led the 13-team field on Thursday, while Washington (-12) and Florida State (-11) sit in second and third place, respectively.
The Ducks must finish in the top-five to qualify for the NCAA Championships on May 28 in Alpharetta, Ga.
Sophomore Jonathan Woo and freshman Brandon McIver each carded a 69 (-3) today to lead Oregon. Woo put home five birdies en route to a five-under front nine, while McIver rallied for four birdies on the back nine after shooting even-par on the front. The Oregon first-year had just one bogey on the back nine.
Oregon's other two freshmen, Sulman Raza and Zach Foushee, shot a 70 (-2) and 72 (E) to follow Woo and McIver. Raza's round featured five birdies. Sophomore Rak Cho put together a solid 73 (+1) to cap the day for the Ducks.
Second round action at the Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club begins tomorrow (Friday) morning at 8 a.m.
