SONOMA, Calif. – The Oregon men’s golf team couldn’t replicate yesterday’s success and shot a 292 (+4) earning the Ducks (282-2880-292—854 (-10)) a tie for sixth-place with Colorado (288-282-284—854 (-10)) Tuesday afternoon at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational. Sulman Raza led the way for UO carding a 74 (+2) on the final day of play tying him for 12th.
Fourth-ranked California (268-273-284—825 (-39)) claimed its third-straight victory at the tournament and have now won 8-of-12 since 2002. Joel Stalter (64-69-70—203 (-13)) of the Golden Bears carded a 70 (-2) on the day and finished 13-under to take the individual title by one stroke over Oregon State’s David Fink 69-67-68—204 (-12).
The Ducks looked like they were going to hold on to their lead halfway through the round behind Thomas Lim’s eagle and Brandon McIver’s two birdies but Oregon saw its chances slip away on the back nine. The back nine swallowed up UO for 10 bogies and a pair of double bogies dropped the Ducks to 10-under.
"We have had some trouble finishing golf tournaments in the past and unfortunately that happened again," said head coach Casey Martin. "It was disappointing because we were playing well." "We need to find a way to finish strong," Martin said.
Zach Foushee (72-68-76—216 (E)), Oregon’s second-best finisher through 36-holes, did not fare as well in the third round and carded a 76 on the day finishing the tournament at even-par tying him for 27th. Like Foushee, Lim finished the invitational tied for 27th for a final card of 68-74-74—216 (E).
Brandon McIver had the best finish among all the Ducks firing a 71 and finished tied for 34th (73-73-71—217 (+1)). Ryann Ree recorded a birdie and a pair of bogies on the fourth and eighth hole but shot even-par the rest of the way (72-71-73—216 (E)) joining Foushee and Lim at 27th.
Oregon will have a couple weeks off before finishing up its fall schedule with the Gifford Collegiate in Newport Beach, Calif. Nov. 4-5.
