NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The University of Oregon men’s golf team concluded its fall season with a 10th-place finish at a very competitive Gifford Collegiate on the Ocean North Course of the Pelican Hill Resort Tuesday afternoon.  Sulman Raza found his groove in the final two rounds carding 79-69-68—216 (+6) and tied for 25th.

“I thought Sulman played wonderfully after a horrible start,” said head coach Casey Martin. “He really battled back which was great to see.”

Top-ranked Alabama captured its fourth-straight title this fall with its win at the Gifford Collegiate. The Crimson Tide (275-276-285—836 (-4)) claimed the team title by just three strokes ahead of USC who carded a 283-277-279—839 (-1). Southern Methodist (+2) was third followed by Washington (+5), Northwestern (+8) and UCLA (+120). Lamar took seventh while Coastal Carolina (+26), Tennessee (+27) and Oregon (294-288-287—869 (+29)) rounds out the top-10.

USC’s Rico Hoey just edged past teammate Anthony Paolucci by one stroke to take the individual title carding 68-66-68—202 (-8). SMU’s Bryson Dechambeau (-5) took third while teammate Harry Higgs and Bobby Wyatt of ‘Bama tied for fourth at 3-under par to round out the top-five.

Thomas Lim fared much better in the final round than the first two and finished tied for 36th with a line of 72-78-70—220 (+10). Brandon McIver rallied at the end of the third round putting in a pair of birdies in his last three holes for a 73-77-72—222 (+12) total.

In his first varsity tournament, Brandon Baumgarten carded a 78-70-77—225 (+15) tying for 47th. Zach Foushee, had a rough third round, rounded things out for the Ducks firing in a 71-72-84—227 (+17) and tied for 50th-place.

In four tournaments this fall season, UO has finished in the top four in every single one of those tournaments, with its best finish coming from the St. Mary’s Invitational where the Ducks took second.

“We had a tough fall and really rough finish,” said Martin. “We will bounce back though in the spring.”

Oregon returns to action on Feb. 5-7 when the Ducks fly to Waikoloa, Hawaii, for the Amer Ari Invitational.
