EUGENE, Ore. – Head coach Casey Martin announced the signing of Aaron Wise, a top-ranked golfer from Santiago High School, to a letter of intent Wednesday afternoon. Wise, a native of Lake Elsinore, Calif., is currently ranked 21st in his class nationally and fifth in California by Junior Golf Scoreboard.

“Aaron’s been committed since last November and I’m extremely excited to sign a player of Aaron’s quality and character,” Martin said. “He’s an incredibly talented and extremely mature player that has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Tournament back-to-back years.”

Wise took top honors this past summer at the United States Golf Association’s Junior Boys Qualifier in Oceanside, Calif., shooting 65-64—129. He won by 13 strokes over 76 other players.

The senior from SHS has finished in the top 10 six other times in amateur tournaments, including a pair of runner-ups at the Future Champions Golf Western States Players Cup and the San Diego Junior Amateur tournament earlier this year.

As a junior, Wise claimed three top-three finishes at the FCG and American Junior Golf Association tournaments, as well as a sixth-place finish at the AJGA Preseason Juniors.

Wise also won the California Interscholastic Federation Central Division Individual Championship by two strokes.

“He has a wonderful mental game and as he develops physically, I think he has a chance to become one of the best players in Oregon history to be honest,” Martin said. “I think he’s really special. He shot some incredibly low rounds as a junior golfer and playing in amateur tournaments. He’s not afraid to make a bunch of birdies and shoot really low scores. He’ll be an impact player for us.”
