EUGENE – Oregon head men’s golf coach Casey Martin announced the signing of Christopher “Hurly” Long for the upcoming 2014-15 season. Long comes to UO from St. Leon-Rot, Germany, where the Mannheim Viernheim Golf Course serves as his home course. He joins Aaron Wise, whom Martin signed in the early signing period, as members of the 2014-15 class.

“I’m very excited about the addition of Hurly,” said Martin. “He’s the first European player I’ve signed and recruited. We learned about him through his dad last year, who teaches over there. He reached out to us and it kind of just fell into our lap because I haven’t recruited over there too much.”

Long joins Oregon with a lot of international experience, having played worldwide as a member of the German Junior National Team. His most recent victory came this past Christmas Eve when he won the Doral Publix Junior title with a 73-71-70—214 card at the three-day tournament held at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, Fla.

“I had the chance to see him play at the Doral this past winter,” Martin said. “He ended up winning the tournament and looked really good. I think he’s going to be a very good player. He can really hit the ball, has a great work ethic and is a late bloomer who has the opportunity to be an elite player. He’s developed quite nicely in the last year.”

The St. Leon-Rot, Germany, native has also won championships at the Faldo German U18 Championships (2012), AK18 BWGV (2013), AK16 BWGV and twice at the Heidelberg Open (2013, 2011). Long has also finished in the top five in several other tournaments in Europe and the United States.

Long is ranked No. 27 in the world junior golf ranking according to the World Junior Golf Tournament Series. The future Duck has won one tournament in the series to go along with a pair of top-10 finishes and one top-20 finish.

Oregon is preparing for the Pac-12 Championships, set to take place on April 25-27 at the Gallery Golf Club in Marana, Ariz., hosted by Arizona.
