RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The summer tournaments continues to be fruitful for the Oregon men’s golf team as a trio of Ducks qualified for the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship. The United States Golf Association hosted event will be held at the Atlanta Athletic Club (Highlands Course) on Aug. 11-17 in Johns Creek, Ga.
Thomas Lim, fresh off of winning the Oregon Amateur less than a month ago, tied for second at the sectional qualifier held at the Victoria Club. The Moorpark, Calif., product narrowly made the cut thanks to a 7-under 64 first round card to go along with his a 1-under 70 second round to finish 8-under 134.
Incoming freshman Aaron Wise took first at the sectional qualifier, shooting a 14-under 128. The Santiago High School graduate fired in a tournament-low 62 in the first round and followed with a 5-under 66 card in round two to win by six strokes.
Soon to be senior Jonathan Woo was the third Duck and only golfer from the Eagle Crest Resort sectional qualifier in Redmond, Ore., to earn a spot in the U.S. Amateur Championships. Woo won his sectional by three strokes with a 9-under 135. The Singapore native qualified thanks to a 6-under 66 card in the second round.
