EUGENE, Ore. - The 20th-ranked University of Oregon women’s golf team heads to New Orleans, La. for their second event of the 2012 spring season in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship. Play begins Sunday, February 26 at 8:00am (EST) at the par-72 English Turn Golf and Country Club.
This will be the Ducks’ first time competing in this tournament, a three-day, 54-hole event, hosted by Tulane University. The 15-team field features nine of Golfstat.com’s Top 25 teams, while 12 schools are currently sitting in the top-50. Ryan Herrington of Golf Digest ranked the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate as the fourth-best women’s collegiate tournament for the spring season.
Last year’s champion, USC, as well as two other Pac-12 schools, are among the field. Five other conferences are represented, including the Atlantic Coast Conference, Atlantic Sun Conference, the Big-12, Conference USA, and the Southeastern Conference.
Seventeen of the country’s top-50 women golfers based on golfstat.com’s scoring averages, including six individuals among the top-20 will contend for the title.
Oregon looks to build off of last weeks 11th place finish at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The Ducks were lead by freshman Cassy Isagawa at 8-over 221, finishing in a tie for 10th place.
