NESHANIC STATION, N.J. - Incoming University of Oregon freshman Caroline
Inglis wrapped action Wednesday against many of the nation's top
players in the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship on the
Neshanic Valley Golf Course.
In the first round of match play, the Eugene, Ore., native and #57 seed was edged by #8 seed Annie Park of Levittown, N.Y., by a 6 and 5 count.
The 17-year-old Park took the first two holes by single-stroke margins with her birdie and par. After both players parred the third hole, Park also took the fourth and fifth holes with a par and birdie, respectively.
After Inglis tied her on holes #7 and 8 with par scores, Park won her sixth and final hole of the event with her par score on the ninth hole.
On the final four holes of their match-up, the duo tied with four straight par scores (#10-13).
Overall Inglis ended with nine par scores and four bogeys, while Park logged three birdies, 10 par scores, and no bogeys on the par-72 course.
Looking ahead, Park now faces #25 seed Sally Watson of Stanford in the round of 32 match on Thursday that starts at 4:50 a.m. PT. The latter player won in 19 holes over #40 seed Haley Stephens Wednesday morning.
Earlier in the week, Ingilis stood 54th (72-76-148) in the stroke play portion of the event.
On Monday, her even-par 72 score included two birdies (#4, #17), 14 par scores (#1, 3, 5-9, 11-16, 18) and two bogeys (#2, 10).
On Tuesday, she came back with an eagle (#7), one birdie (#16), 11 par scores (#1-3, 6, 10, 12-15, 17-18), four bogeys (#4, 5, 8, 11) and one triple-bogey (8).
In the overall standings, Lisa McCloskey (70-67-137) owned a one-stroke lead on the field with her seven-under overall score. Karen Cheng (70-68-138) and Steffi Neisen (70-68-138) followed one stroke back in a tie for second place.

Looking ahead to later in the week, a round of 16 will also be contested Thursday afternoon. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be held Friday, and the final follows on Saturday.
