Hickle Paces No. 27 Ducks in Puerto Rico Classic Second Round

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The No. 27 University of Oregon women’s golf team made the second-biggest jump in Monday’s team standings in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic second round hosted at the Rio Mar Beach Resort.

The Ducks improved three positions and stood in 11th place overall after they shot a 19-over score of 307 on the par-72 course.

Individually, sophomore Cheyenne Hickle (28th-t, 79-75-154) carded the team’s best round of the tourney so far and also paced the squad in the overall individual standings.

UO also counted scores Monday from freshman Raphaela Dyer (35th-t, 79-76-155), junior Ashley Edwards (41st-t, 79-77-156) and senior Erica Omlid (50th-t, 78-79-157). UO’s other entrant was senior Kendra Little (70th, 77-82-159) who led the unit in Monday’s opening round.

Overall on the team leaderboard, No. 1 Alabama held a nine-stroke lead on the 18-team field with an eight-over score of 594. No. 29 Iowa State moved a stroke closer to the Crimson Tide and stood second (300-293-593), while the top five was rounded out by No. 44 Florida State (third, 303-295-598), No. 6 Purdue (fourth, 300-302-602) and No. 10 Georgia (fifth, 308-302-610).

In the individual standings, Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow (73-70-143) and Texas Tech’s Gabriella Dominguez (71-72-143) moved into a tie for the lead, one stroke ahead of Florida State’s Maria Salinas (71-73-144) and Georgia’s Marta Silva Zamora (76-68-144) who were tied for third place.

Looking ahead, UO returns for third and final-round action Tuesday.
