No. 27 Ducks Improve to 10th in Lady Puerto Rico Classic Finale

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The No. 27 University of Oregon women’s golf team climbed another position into 10th place in Tuesday’s final team standings in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic hosted at the Rio Mar Beach Resort.

The Ducks finished 10th overall (313-307-302-922) and improved another position after it carded its best round of the tourney (a 12-over 300) Tuesday and the sixth-best score of the day on the par-72 course.

Individually, sophomore Cheyenne Hickle (30th-t, 79-75-74-228) logged the team’s best score of the tourney for the second straight round. The Gilbert, Ariz., native also led UO in a tourney’s final standings for the fourth time in her career and first time this season. Glancing at her scorecard, she carded four birdies Tuesday after she shot two on Monday and three on Sunday.

UO also counted scores Tuesday from senior Erica Omlid (40th-t, 78-79-75-232), junior Ashley Edwards (47th, 79-77-78-234) and senior Kendra Little (47th-t, 77-82-75-234), while freshman Raphaela Dyer rounded out the Duck unit (79-76-81-236).

Overall on the team leaderboard, No. 1 Alabama won by a five-stroke margin over the 18-team field with an 11-over score of 875. No. 29 Iowa State cut its second-round deficit to the Tide by four strokes and held onto second place (300-293-287-880). The next three final placings also remained the same as before the round - No. 44 Florida State (third, 303-295-293-891), No. 6 Purdue (fourth, 300-302-294-896) and No. 10 Georgia (fifth, 308-302-297-907).

In the individual standings, pre-round leader Stephanie Meadow of Alabama (73-70-69-212) won by one stroke over Maria Salinas of Florida State (second, 71-73-69-213). Marta Silva Zamora of Georgia followed another stroke back in third place (76-68-70-214).

Looking ahead, UO returns to action in two weeks in the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational in San Jose (2/28-3/1), followed by two more regular season events – the Battle at Rancho Bernardo at Rancho Bernardo, Calif. (3/20-22) and Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (4/4-5) at Half Moon Bay, Calif.
