Little Leads No. 31 Ducks in San Jose Opener

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The No. 31 University of Oregon women’s golf team capped Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational first-day action tied for second place (302-302-604) in the 12-team field.

In the overall team standings, the Ducks trailed No. 9 California (first, 297-291-588) by 16 strokes, while No. 24 Colorado (299-306-604) was tied with UO at 28-over.

Other teams in the top five included No. 22 UC Davis (fourth, 302-306-608) and No. 133 Santa Clara (fifth, 305-311-616). The other top-30 ranked team in the field, No. 30 Washington, followed in seventh place (312-308-620), two strokes behind UC Irvine (sixth, 313-305-618).

UO featured all five players in the top 30 overall, and was led by senior Kendra Little (fourth, 74-72-146).  The three-time All-Pac-10 Second-Team choice paced UO for the fifth and sixth times among her 20 rounds this season, to go along with 48 honors career-wise.

Three strokes off the individual lead, the Eugene native carded one birdie in the first round on the par-three 13th, and added five more in the second round (holes #1, 4-5, 16, 18).

The Ducks also counted scores Monday from sophomore Cheyenne Hickle (12th-t, 77-76-153), senior Erica Omlid (12th-t, 77-76-153), freshman Raphaela Dyer (19th-t, 76-78-154), and sophomore Avery Sills (26th-t, 80-76-156).

Overall on the individual leaderboard, Emily Childs of California (72-71-143) owned a one-stroke lead over teammate Joanne Lee (second,72-72-144). Alice Kim of UC Davis followed in third place (73-72-145).
