No. 21 Ducks finish fifth after first round at Pac-12's

Eugene, Ore.- The 21st ranked University of Oregon’s women’s golf team (307) finished in the middle of the pack in fifth place at the Pac-12 Championship. The Ducks finished at 19-over in the first round at the par-72 Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash.
    Today’s players battled through windy conditions and cold weather, with wind gusts around 30mph. Only one player in the 55-person field shot under-par in Friday’s round.
“These were some of the toughest conditions we’ve seen all spring,” Oregon Head Coach Ria Scott said. “Despite making some mistakes out there, we are pleased that we are still in good position to make a run at the Championship. We need to learn and adjust quickly, and we believe our team can do that. If our players continue to grind and play smart golf, it will be a successful week.”
    Freshman Cassy Isagawa  had the best round for UO, shooting a four-over 76 finishing in a tie for seventh place. This round recorded her 16th round as the Ducks best shooter; she currently sits as the seventh best player nationally based on scoring average by
    Three Ducks, senior Ashley Edwards, junior Cheyenne Hickle, and freshman Cali Hipp finished at five-over 77 in a tie for 16th place. Sophomore Raphaela Dyer also made the trip for Oregon, completing the first round at seven-over in a tie for 33rd place.
    After the first round, fifth-ranked Arizona State (299) finished in first place overall. Five shots behind the leader, top-ranked UCLA sits in the second place spot shooting 16-over 304. No. 3 USC and No. 13 Cal finished in a tie for third place at 18-over 306.
On the individual leaderboard, Arizona State’s Giulia Molinaro sits in the first place spot, shooting one-under 71, being the only player of the day to shoot under-par in the first round. Jennifer Coleman of Colorado, Erynne Lee of UCLA, and Lisa McCloskey of USC finished in a three-way tie for second place, three shots behind the leader at two-over 73.
