No. 21 Ducks Eighth After Round One at NCAA Regionals

EUGENE, Ore.- The No. 21 University of Oregon women’s golf team shot a 20-over 308 in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional. The ducks finished in a tie for eighth place out of the 24-team field at the 72, 6,264-yard Ohio State Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

    Freshman Cassy Isagawa shot a 75 on the day, recording the best score for UO at three-over par. Isagawa finished in a tie for 20th overall after one round, but currently ranks seventh nationally based on scoring average by

    In the team standings, the third-ranked USC Trojans claim the first place spot after finishing 10-over par 298 after round one. One shot behind the Trojans, Georgia finished in second at 299 and 33rd-ranked Purdue shot 13-over 301 to round out the top standings in third place.

    The Ducks also counted scorecards from Cali Hipp, Cheyenne Hickle, and Raphaela Dyer. Hickle finished at five-over par 77, finishing in a tie for 36th place after the first round. Hipp and Dyer both finished in a tie for 52nd after shooting six-over 78. Senior Ashley Edwards also made the trip, shooting nine-over 81 in a tie for 93rd after one round.

      The top eight teams and the two individuals with the lowest scores, not from those teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships. This year’s NCAA Championship finals will be held May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee and will be hosted by Vanderbilt University, Nashville.

    Out of the six individuals competing for two spots, Alex Buelow of Stetson and Madeleine Sheils of Nebraska are the top two individuals after both shooting even-par after one round. Marina Alex of Vanderbilt is the top player overall at two-under 70, Alex finished the day with a solid round of golf, totaling three birdies to offset one bogey. Paula Reto of Purdue and Maria Salinas of Florida State tied for second at one-under 71.

    The second round of the tournament will begin Friday May 11th with 8 a.m. tee times, Oregon’s Ashley Edwards will be the first to tee off for the Ducks at 12:20pm EST.
