ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Junior Cassy Isagawa carded consecutive under par rounds to lead the field after the first day of action at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Friday. The Ducks shot the lowest round of the day, a six-under par 286, in the afternoon round to jump to second place on the leaderboard.
Oregon broke the school record for team score vs. par with its six-under round, topping the previous record of five-under at the 2008 UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational.
Competing on the par 73 UNM Championship Course, the Ducks shot a 36-hole score of 585 (+1) and trail tournament-leading Pepperdine by four stokes entering Sunday’s final round. Oregon shot a 299 (+7) in the morning round and were tied for fifth before catching fire in the second round. Oregon put a 286 on the scorecard with three individual rounds under par.
With Isagawa, sophomore Caroline Inglis and freshman Monica Petchakan in the top 10 of individual standings, the Ducks put two stellar rounds together in New Mexico. Oregon leads third-place UC Davis by three strokes.
Isagawa, a two-time All-Pac-12 selection, leads the field at eight-under with a two-round tally of 138. Her opening round consisted of five birdies and 11 pars, shooting a steady three-under 70. After falling to one-over in her second round, Isagawa lit the course up with six birdies and five pars in the final 11 holes to shoot a 68 (-5), the lowest round of the season by a Duck.
Inglis and Santoso are tied for eighth in the field as both shot identical rounds of 75 (+2) and 71 (-2) to sit at even par through two rounds (146).
Inglis birdies three holes in her first round, but had a streak of four straight bogeys through holes 5-8 to shoot a two-over round. She made par on all four of those holes in the second round, and also made two birdies and 16 pars to card a two-under round.
Santoso played two even-keeled rounds with just five holes over par on the day. She birdied the par-five 18th hole and made 14 pars in the first round to tally a 75. Santoso made birdie on four holes in the afternoon to jump from 24th to eighth on the leaderboard with a 71 (-2).
Junior Monica Petchakan improved three stokes on her opening round and is tied for 51st in the field. Petchakan shot a 79 (+6) in round one with birdies on holes 1, 9, 10 and 13. She carded a three-over 76 in the afternoon with a birdie on the first hole and an eagle on the par-five ninth hole.
Junior Cali Hipp shot a 36-hole score of 163 (+17) and is tied for 82nd.
Senior Raphaela Dyer and freshman Marcella Pranovia competed individually. Dyer is tied for 47th after carding consecutive round of 77 (+4) for a two-round tally of 154 (+8). Pranovia is tied for 59th in the field with a 36-round score of 158 (+12).
Oregon is searching for a consecutive team title at the Dick McGuire Invitational, as the Ducks won the tournament in 2010. Saturday’s final round will tee off with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (PT).
