Hey Duck Fans!
We are gearing up for our trip back to my hometown to play the Portland Pilots this Saturday. We are feeling very excited to get back on the courts after an intense week of matches.
In case you missed the results, we headed out to Boise, Idaho last week to take on Weber St. in a neutral match followed by a evening date with the No. 22 ranked Boise State Broncos the following night. We were able to clinch a 4-3 win over Weber State after the recently married Duncan MacDonald-Korth picked up a great three-set win. However, we did not have too much time to bask in our victory as before we knew it we were heading into the big showdown with Boise State.
Taking our first steps onto the court we knew this was going to be a wild night, not to mention the raucous crowd running 500 strong begging for a miss on every one of our strokes. But we were able to match their energy and then some as we came out strong, silencing the crowd by squeaking out a tight doubles point.
The intensity would pour into singles as 3 of the 6 matches went to tiebreaks. After a good three hours and a huge win for Alexander Cornelissen at number 1 singles over the 35th ranked player in the nation, we came up a little short losing the dual 4-3. As heartbreaking as the loss was, we know we can compete with the best in the country and it was great for us to get a tough couple matches early under our belts as well as give our freshmen some valuable experience. Speaking of freshmen, we have a new addition to our team straight from Down Under, Aaron Clissold. In case you didn’t already have enough reasons to come check out Duck tennis, Aaron’s got a great game (he’s undefeated in singles and doubles so far) to go along with probably the sweetest haircut in college tennis, its something between a typical pro surfer haircut and an anime character. So in case you're in Portland this Saturday at 2 pm and want to check out some great tennis or Aaron’s haircut, get your best green and yellow gear and come cheer us on.
