An Update from Senior Duncan "Diesel" MacDonald-Korth
Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010
Hello Duck tennis blog fans! Duncan MacDonald-Korth reporting here.
The year has gotten off to a good and busy start. We have been working our butts off thus far this fall and I feel like we are really starting to make progress as a team. The freshmen have gotten into the swing of things, stopped asking directions to their classes, and certainly stepped up their fitness.
We started the year as a team at the Boise State Fall Classic. We did well in this tourney but a lot of us lost close matches late and felt like we may have left some opportunities out on the court. Aaron Clissold had a good showing and fought through to the quarterfinals before unfortunately succumbing to cramps. Altogether though, I think it was a solid start to the year.
Ten days ago, we played the biggest tournament of the fall, ITA Regionals, and unfortunately we felt like we didn’t do as well as we should have. Freshman Alex Rovello was one bright spot, but as a whole we feel like we needed to do better. Thus, we are very excited to get back out on the courts next weekend in Seattle, Wash at Washington University. We are eager to improve our results and make progress as a unit as we progress towards dual season.
As far as our day-to-day lives, we have been working very hard and it is starting to get very chilly at our 6:30 a.m. lifts! We have been putting in a lot of track work lately in order to improve our fitness and endurance on the court. It has been paying off too, particularly with the freshmen. They have made significant strength and endurance gains since arriving in Eugene.
Hope all is well with our loyal Duck fans, we regret that we have no matches in Eugene this fall, but we are looking forward to seeing you all at the Student Tennis Center this spring!
