LOS ANGELES – Second-ranked USC’s lineup of four top-50 players proved too much for the No. 65 Oregon men’s tennis team in a 7-0 setback in Los Angeles on Friday.

Alex Rovello and Robin Cambier fought tough through a competitive match at No. 1 doubles. The Ducks’ top pairing clashed with No. 47 Jaak Poldma and Steven Johnson. The freshmen duo stood toe-to-toe with the ranked pairing before ultimately succumbing, 8-6, at the top spot.

USC took the doubles point with 8-2 and 8-1 wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.

The Trojans’ quickly secured the dual victory with straight-set victories at the top five spots, clinching it with a 6-1, 6-2 win by top-ranked Steven Johnson over Rovello at No. 1 singles. The other straight-set matches saw No. 36 Poldma defeated Baptiste Faynot (6-2, 6-0), No. 34 Daniel Nguyen dispatch Cambier (6-4, 6-2), No. 49 Ray Sarmiento down Jose Izquierdo (6-0, 6-3) and Emilio Gomez beat Duncan MacDonald-Korth (6-2, 6-2).

Douglas Mayeda started off strong at the No. 6 spot, posting a 6-1 first set win over Michael Grant. However, Grant flipped the tables and took the last two sets to post a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Oregon concludes its road trip on Saturday when it takes on No. 16 UCLA. That dual begins at 1 p.m.
