EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 59 ranked University of Oregon men's tennis team fell to the No. 5 UCLA Bruins, 7-0, on Friday (Mar. 30) at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene, Ore.

The Ducks (14-2, 0-1 Pac-12) drop their opening Pac-12 dual after winning six consecutive matches heading into today's contest.

"I definitely feel like we showed a little too much respect out there today with some big points," remarked head coach Nils Schyllander.  "We just need to play with a little more aggressiveness, that's exactly what No. 1 doubles did."

The doubles point was closely contended with Oregon's dynamic No. 1 doubles team of Jeff Mullen and Robin Cambier leading the way.  Mullen/Cambier defeated UCLA's Alex Brigham and Adrien Puget, 8-4.

"On a bright note, I think the No. 1 doubles showed up and played a great match," said Schyllander.   "That's going to be a great win for them down the road."

The win for Mullen and Cambier marks their 24th win of the season dating back to the fall schedule.  The duo has already eclipsed the Oregon single season record for doubles wins in a season (19) and they continue to add to their margin.  They remain perfect in the spring with a 15-0 record at No. 1 doubles.

In singles, the Bruins (15-2, 1-0 Pac-12) showed what has contributed to their No. 5 national ranking by winning all six matches in straight sets.  Headlined by No. 59 Clay Thompson and No. 30 Nick Meister at No. 1 and 2 singles, the Bruins overcame an early surge from the Ducks to win easily.  Thompson defeated sophomore Alex Rovello ,6-3, 6-2 while Meister defeated previously undefeated Robin Cambier, 6-3, 6-1 snapping his 15-match winning streak in singles.

The Ducks turn right around and take on the No. 1 ranked USC Trojans tomorrow (Mar. 31) at 11 a.m. at the Student Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Oregon invites everyone out for what should be a great display of two great tennis teams, and as always admission is free.
